Wedding Venue…Check!

As soon as Tom and I got engaged, we got to thinking: where should we get married? Tom’s family is in England, mine is in San Diego. Our friends are pretty much spread out all over America and Europe. With everyone so spread out, how do you choose a place to get married that’s convenient for people? Also, what type of venue would we even like? Are we the get married on the beach type of couple? Or would we rather do something maybe in the snow? Or maybe a winery wedding… those are always so pretty! There are literally so many options and they’re all so beautiful in their own way. How does one choose!?

Then we began to think of logistics such as flights and transporting this here and there. How would we find the time to visit the destination for a walk through or for menu tastings? Then I start to think, what if I forgot something absolutely essential at home? I can’t exactly fly back from somewhere like Hawaii to come get what I forgot and fly right back. We decided to keep it around Southern California. Tom’s family is awesome and doesn’t mind the trip… and my family, and well…our life is here! Plus, how does one go about beating the weather in Southern California?

After looking around for a while, we had it narrowed down to the Montage in Laguna Beach and San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito. They are both seriously SO stunning I can’t even describe it to you guys. Although, after doing a day trip up to San Ysidro, we were sold. It felt so special, and so us. I can’t really describe the feeling other than “when you know, you know”. Obviously, there are pros and cons with every venue. With the venue space we wanted, there’s a maximum capacity of 72 people (literally not one more person can fit!). In the beginning I wasn’t sure if this was a pro or a con… but after it set in, I think it’s definitely a pro. Tom and I are pretty low-key. We love both of our families to death, and other than them being there… we both have a few very close friends that I want there and that’s pretty much it. I only want the people there that I couldn’t imagine getting married without. This is obviously a personal choice… I definitely have been to some amazing 250+ person weddings!

So, if I can give any advice in this regard… I would say talk it over with your fiancé. Talk about the size of wedding you want to have (this is a big factor in choosing a venue), the season you want to get married in, the logistics (flights, hotels, etc.), and what feels the most YOU. A dramatic wedding in a Spanish chapel would have been amazing… but could not have been farther from who Tom and I are as a couple. The most important thing on that day is for you two to feel comfortable. We are SO excited about our choice, and CAN NOT WAIT until October 8, 2017!
